V_ it’s art baby_ s.i.t.c.o.m.“It’s ART BABY” A proposed ARTS EDUCATION SITCOM of six episodes. Synopsis The sitcom takes place within a private contemporary gallery who have an arts education team (SURREAL!) Each week they attempt to mediate conceptual works of art using increasingly progressive modes of misunderstanding. What starts off in the pilot as a mix up of languages escalates to use of torture and staged prison breaks whereby finally the walls of the space evaporate. The scenes within the gallery are often narrated by the invigilators. Theory The sitcom aims not to poke fun at groups of people who are familiar or less familiar with viewing art. Instead it hopes to open up the contradictions present within the structures of arts education and enjoy some of the theoretical paradoxes of operating as a “Critical arts educator.” The sitcom functions as arts education attempting to validate misunderstanding as an approach to interpreting art twofold: – as it positions itself as arts education, noticeably with Verm the Worm’s “EXPLICIT VERMITTLUNG” sessions. – as it is a piece of art that is hopefully followable but not understandable. Characters Gallery team – organised heirachically from right to left. Gunes – Gallery Director. Italian / Turkish – fierce Patrick – Gallery Owner. Mild-tempered. Slow on discourse Maxine – Multiple roles. Interested in power dynamics and bondage. Laura – Front Desk. Gallerina / ex ballerina – always stretching calves and looking up famous historical figures Client 1 & 2 – Money $$$ Arts Education Department – Muse of Sculpture, Muse of Song and Muse of Thought Invigilators- Post 1, Post 2, Post 3, Post 4
